Cape Town was a 20 something hour flight from Nashville, TN, but we lost count after about 12 hours into the trip. The lack of sleep didn't help much either. In the last 48 hours, our Cape Town experience has consisted of: a rotisserie chicken and bread stick dinner, a Cosmo magazine, Rachel Ray on tv, and shopping malls. All these "exotic" experiences minus the conveniences of typical American luxury: a car and free plastic grocery bags(5cents/each). Did we forget to mention the 14% tax?
Oh yea, on our first night at Albion Cottage, our host gave us a bowl of chili. It had ground beef, onions, tomatoes, and the normal spices. South African chili was filling, but tasted slightly different from those we've had back in The States. Two days and three bowls later, we complimented the host on the chili. She said with a quizzical grin "it's a boulanaise sauce usually eaten on pasta."
Girl: "you mean like Spaghetti sauce?"
Host: smiles
Needless to say, we felt pretty foolish. Though South African "chili" tasted tolerable, the spaghetti sauce didn't live up to American standards.
A quick tour:
A view of Western Cape from the sky
Half of the flat we are renting in Cape Town. This is the living room/kitchen/dining room. People here conserve space pretty well. We miss the sectional sofa.
View from the "kitchen" counter. Refer to above photo.
Urban art along the train track, two blocks from our cottage. Don't go out after dark.
Landscaping with razor wire. Some prefer the razor wires, others sharp pointy spikes, but we prefer the electrical fence. Because digging a moat around the property and filling it with crocagators seems a bit impractical.
The nearest shopping district only a 10 min. walk away. In Cape Town, we look right then left before crossing the road.

Good luck Tuesday!

funny guys...really funny (about the picture).
I'm so glad to see the post up. It looks great. I'm happy to see you safely settled into your place in capetown. The flat looks really cute!! I love, specifically, the one large chair in the living room/kitchen/dining area. How is the bedroom? you should post that. what about closet space? Do you guys have a TV? (these are--of course-- the typical american questions that i'm dying to know!)
MISS YOU ALREADY!!
you know, we did reserve the most flattering poses of you on here and prevented people from stealing it.=) more photos to come! taking bunches.
